Past perfect simple and continuous

*Past perfect simple :

We use the past perfect simple to talk about what happened before a point in the past .

Example:

The teacher had already told the parents before I got a chance to give them my version.

*Past perfect continuous:

We use the past perfect continuous to refer to an action in the past which continued until another action took place.

Example:

The miners had been digging all night long when an explosion occurred.
